Some of America’s first settlers turned to cannibalism, ‘powdered wife’ to survive, scientists say
Scientists revealed Wednesday that they have found the first solid archaeological evidence that some of the earliest American colonists at Jamestown, Virginia, survived harsh conditions by turning to cannibalism.

For years, there have been tales of people in the first permanent English settlement in America eating dogs, cats, rats, mice, snakes and shoe leather to stave off starvation. There were also written accounts of settlers eating their own dead, but archaeologists had been skeptical of those stories.

But now, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and archaeologists from Jamestown are announcing the discovery of the bones of a 14-year-old girl that show clear signs that she was cannibalized. Evidence indicates clumsy chops to the body and head of the girl, who appears to have already been dead at the time. (The Bettman Archive)

for those not in the know, night witches were russian lady bombers who bombed the shit out of german lines in WW2. Thing is though, they had the oldest, noisiest, crappest planes in the entire world. The engines used to conk out halfway through their missions, so they had to climb out on the wings mid flight to restart the props. the planes were also so noisy that to stop germans from hearing them combing and starting up their anti aircraft guns, they’d climb up to a certain height, coast down to german positions, drop their bombs, restart their engines in midair, and get the fuck out of dodge.

their leader flew over 200 missions and was never captured.

how the fuck is this not taught in every single history class ever

we do not learn enough about the badasses of history.

Psh, gotta throw in a little Bright Eyes when appropriate people. Anwyays, it was the first day of teaching (my life!) the freshmen World History course with all my little high school nuggets! I had planned these Twitter themed worksheets and had them respond to school rule changes as if they were John Locke and Thomas Hobbes. I taught my 1st and 3rd and made some adjustments between them of course (because 1st hour is always the guinea pig).

AND THEN, my vision in my right eye goes haywire during the end of 3rd and migraine and nausea set in during my 4th plan period. I HAD to leave; it felt like I was hung over! And I definitely was NOT. EFF YOU, BODY! QUIT CONTROLLIN’ MAH LIFE!

I really like my 7th hour kids too, and I wanted to run the activities with them :( I shall be back tomorrow though to teach more about the Enlightenment and they get to make their own set of rules/government in groups as if they were stranded on a island with their group members! Yay, interactive/fun learning!
